A Missouri man has a new chance at life thanks to the kindness of a stranger guided by faith.
Tim Heatherly, 32, was diagnosed with chronic kidney disease after a routine doctor visit four years ago. Dialysis became his lifeline, but it consumed his days and ended his career in the car business. Friends who tried to donate were all rejected, leaving Heatherly losing hope.
That hope returned when Joe Turner, a 39-year-old DoorDash driver and father of three from Heatherly’s hometown, saw a simple Facebook post from Heatherly’s mother about the need for a kidney. Turner felt called by faith to help.
After months of testing, Turner was a perfect match. The two met at a local bar to fill out paperwork, and last month, the transplant surgery gave Heatherly a working kidney.
“He’s doing something huge for a stranger, which in this day and age, it’s rare,” Heatherly said. Turner now checks in daily, turning the act of generosity into a new friendship.
Turner’s favorite T-shirt reads, “Kind people are my kind of people,” a motto he lives every day, reminding everyone that a stranger’s faith and kindness can truly save a life.
