“Abbott Elementary” creator and star Quinta Brunson is giving back to her hometown in a big way. The Philadelphia native has teamed up with the School District of Philadelphia to launch the Quinta Brunson Field Trip Fund, an initiative designed to provide free field trips for public school students across the city.

Launched on Giving Tuesday, the fund aims to eliminate the cost barriers that often prevent schools from taking trips, ultimately opening access to Philadelphia’s museums, cultural institutions, and historic landmarks. Organizers say the goal is to cover field trip costs for more than 117,000 students in the district, with a focus on schools in underserved communities.

In a statement, Brunson said field trips were among the most impactful parts of her own education growing up. “They opened my world, sparked my creativity, and helped me imagine a future beyond what I saw every day,” she said. “Going somewhere new shows you that the world is bigger and more exciting than you believe.”

Brunson has continued to invest in Philadelphia students throughout the year. In May, she celebrated the dedication of a mural at Alexander Hamilton Elementary School, where she once attended, and earlier this year she received a key to the city at her former school in West Philadelphia. She has also donated $25,000 to the district’s Groceries for Good program, which supports students experiencing food insecurity.

Research backs up the impact of efforts like this. According to the National Education Association, students who participate in school trips tend to earn better grades, graduate at higher rates, and see long-term benefits later in life.

With this new fund, Brunson hopes Philly students are reminded that their dreams are valid and that the world beyond their classroom is full of possibility.
