Staff at HCA Florida St. Lucie Hospital turned a difficult hospital stay into a moment of joy by planning a romantic bedside anniversary dinner for a patient and her husband.

Angela, a nurse at the hospital, was admitted with severe abdominal pain and underwent surgery just as she and her husband, Christopher, were preparing to celebrate their wedding anniversary. Thinking she would miss the special day left her heartbroken.

That’s when her fellow coworkers stepped in. Led by AnnieBelle and Irmina from the medical-surgical unit, hospital staff quietly planned a surprise. Angela and Christopher were treated to an elegant dinner set up right in her hospital room, complete with candles, flowers, formal place settings, and a meal of steak and shrimp.

“They told me to cover my head and not peek,” Angela said. “When I saw it all set up, it was so nice. And the food was delicious.”

Christopher said it was the first time he had seen Angela smile all week during her unexpected hospital stay.

Now recovering at home and feeling great, Angela said the gesture reflects the caring culture at the hospital. She shared that the staff would do the same for any patient, adding that making people feel valued and cared for is truly at the heart of their mission.
