A simple act of kindness turned into a beautiful friendship in Miami, Florida. Estrella Quiroz, 29, was driving to pick up lunch when she noticed a 97 year old woman walking slowly with a walker and decided to stop and help.
That woman was Lilian, a retiree waiting at a bus stop. Quiroz offered her a ride, explaining that Lilian reminded her of her abuelita. The two quickly began chatting and discovered a meaningful connection. Lilian was born in León, Nicaragua, the same hometown as Quiroz’s father.
Their first outing ended with a shared Wendy’s meal outside Lilian’s home, where the friendship truly took root. “I’m so grateful for our friendship,” Lilian said in Spanish. “May God bless us and make us friends.”
Quiroz shared the moment on TikTok and Instagram, where the video quickly went viral, earning hundreds of thousands of views on TikTok and nearly two million on Instagram. Celebrities like Lauren Jauregui and Rosie O’Donnell praised the moment, with O’Donnell calling it “beautiful.”
@estrellaq95 @Wendy’s can you hook my new 97 year old bestie with Wendy’s for the rest of her life?! She’s on a budget 😭❤️ This was so serendipitous, I was on my way to pick up lunch when I saw her crossing the street! I was shocked because it was so hot outside. I turned around and found her waiting for the bus to go run errands so I offered a ride! She was also born in the same city my dad was born! We were meant to meet. ❤️ Please talk to the elderly when you’re able to. Many are alone / have limited resources. #wendys #elderly #seniors #bffs #miami #fyp #grandma #abuelita #grandmasoftiktok ♬ Los Caminos De La Vida – La Tropa Vallenata
In a follow up video, Quiroz and Lilian reunited over Nicaraguan food from a local restaurant. During lunch, Quiroz surprised Lilian with news that a GoFundMe started in her honor had raised more than $21,000. Wendy’s also sent Lilian a $100 gift card.
Quiroz later shared that the experience reinforced her belief that small acts of kindness can change lives. “Sometimes we don’t even need to buy anything,” she said. “Words can be so powerful in itself.”
What began as a quick stop on a lunch run became a reminder that compassion, time, and human connection can mean everything.
