A couple’s wedding ring has been reunited with them five years after it slipped into a lake during a family vacation, thanks to a determined team of freedivers and a bit of hope.
Chef Richard and his wife Natalie lost the ring while visiting Lake Windermere near Wray Castle. As Richard prepared to swim with their daughters, Natalie held the ring for safekeeping, but it slid off her thumb and sank straight to the bottom of the lake. The ring, engraved with the words “My partner, my lover, my best friend,” disappeared into the murky water as the couple watched helplessly.
Years later, the couple enlisted freedivers Angus, Renée and Mike on the show Lost and Found in the Lakes to help search for the priceless piece. Using a video taken just seconds before the ring was lost, the team combed the lake floor despite poor visibility, silt, trash and constant disturbance from passing ferries.
After hours of digging, clearing debris and sweeping the lakebed with metal detectors, the search finally paid off. Renée uncovered the ring buried beneath layers of rocks and silt.
When Richard slipped the ring back on his finger, it still fit. Natalie broke down in tears as Richard called the moment “literally unbelievable,” adding that while the ring was “a bit worse for wear,” it now carried five years of memories with it.
What once felt like a needle in a haystack turned into a powerful reminder that some things truly are worth searching for.
