A routine traffic stop in Louisiana turned into a moment of compassion that’s now going viral.
According to the St. Tammany Parish Sheriff’s Office, Deputy Dustin Byers pulled a driver over for speeding on Highway 21 and learned the man was on his way to a funeral. The driver shared that he was having a difficult day and was struggling to tie his tie before arriving.
Instead of rushing the interaction, Deputy Byers stepped in to help. A photo shared by the sheriff’s office shows the deputy tying the man’s tie on the side of the road.
“REMINDER: compassion still exists, even on the side of the road,” the department wrote in a Facebook post titled “A Traffic Stop Comes With a Side of Compassion.”
The post was shared more than 2,000 times, with many praising the deputy’s kindness. The sheriff’s office later confirmed that the driver did receive a speeding citation.
One commenter summed up the response from many viewers, writing, “It’s the small gestures that leave the biggest impact.”
