A Connecticut woman named Heather Mosher married her longtime partner David Mosher inside a hospital chapel in Hartford just 18 hours before she passed away from an aggressive form of breast cancer. She was only 31 years old.

Heather had been diagnosed with cancer on the same day David planned to propose. Despite treatment, her condition worsened, and doctors gently encouraged the couple to move their wedding up so Heather could experience that moment. Their original ceremony had been planned for December 30, but time was no longer on their side.

On December 22, 2017, surrounded by family, friends, and hospital staff, Heather and David exchanged vows in an emotional yet love filled ceremony. Wearing her wedding dress, veil, and an oxygen mask, Heather found the strength to say her vows, some of the last words she would ever speak.

The couple’s love story began at a swing dancing class in 2015 and endured the unimaginable twist of her diagnosis the following year. Photos from the ceremony show Heather in her hospital bed, with her parents at her side. Her mother Lindsay shared that Heather had sewn a piece of lace from her late grandmother’s wedding dress into her own gown.

“She was so happy and so beautiful,” Lindsay told PEOPLE. “The tubes and wires just melted into the background and all I saw was love and her dream of marrying Dave coming true.” As she was wheeled out after the ceremony, Heather blew kisses to everyone in the room.

Heather was laid to rest on the day she was meant to become a bride. Her family has since started a GoFundMe in her honor, with donations benefiting the Triple Negative Breast Cancer Foundation.

Her story remains a powerful reminder that even in the face of unimaginable heartbreak, love can shine brighter than fear.
