This summer, while most people are relaxing on holiday, one man is lacing up his shoes every single day, pushing through 64 kilometres, over 83,000 steps, with no rest days and no shortcuts.
Stephen Johnson, Managing Director of Manchester-based Quooker UK & Ireland, is walking across five European countries in just 31 days. That’s the equivalent of 45 marathons back-to-back, and he’s doing it for a reason that goes far beyond endurance.
Stephen is walking in memory of his late father, Neville Johnson, who passed away last year, and his mother, Sandra, whom he lost when he was just 18 months old.
“Grief never leaves you,” Stephen says. “But it can be a force for good. I want children and families to know they’re not alone, that hope is always possible.”

He’s turning pain into purpose, raising awareness for two charities close to his heart: Grief Encounter, which supports children and young people navigating bereavement, and The Friendship Circle, which helps children and adults with disabilities and their families.
“Stephen’s dedication is a stark reminder of the silent, unspoken courage it takes to face each day after sudden loss. He embodies the strength it takes to carry sorrow and still move forward,” says Suzy Turner, CEO of Grief Encounter.
“His walk is a powerful symbol of inclusion and compassion,” adds Mimi Lyons of The Friendship Circle.
With over 2.6 million steps planned across 2,000 kilometres, Stephen may even set a new Guinness World Record for the most steps walked in a single month. While official recognition is still pending, his journey already stands as one of the most determined feats of endurance in the world.

But for Stephen, the record isn’t the point. “We often measure success in numbers,” he says. “But real success is knowing when to be kind, when to ask for help, and when to stand up for others.”
He’s sharing daily updates and videos so supporters can “walk alongside him in spirit.” And thanks to Quooker’s national showroom network, hosting charity raffles, promoting local walks, and offering a prize draw to win a Quooker tap system, his mission is spreading far and wide.
Just six days in, Stephen has already raised over £25,000, with donations climbing every day.
Because sometimes, the longest journeys are the ones that bring us closer together.
