In a quiet corner of Glasgow, Scotland, a tiny four-legged local has become the heart of a bustling school community. Meet Kiki, a friendly, spotted white cat with a morning routine more reliable than most humans.

Every single school day, Kiki accompanies her 10-year-old housemate, Sonny, and his classmates on their walk to school. And get this, she doesn’t just drop them off. Kiki hangs out on the playground all day, then escorts the kids home when the final bell rings.

“She’s brought a lot of joy to the children, staff and school community,” said Kiki’s proud owner, Michelle Scott, 51. “She’s given the teachers an opportunity to teach children how to treat cats and respect them.”

Now, this lovable feline is one of three finalists in the UK National Cat Awards in the “Connected Cats” category, run by Cats Protection, the country’s largest cat welfare charity. With a nomination like that, it’s safe to say Kiki is no ordinary kitty.

A head teacher even praised her for her “100% attendance record,” making her the school’s unofficial mascot.

Kiki’s journey to stardom began when Sonny picked her out of a litter for his eighth birthday. Their connection was instant, and it didn’t stop there.

“I’ve always had cats but Kiki is like no cat I’ve known,” Michelle shared. “She’s really sociable. Whenever Sonny had friends round, she would sit with them as if she was one of them.”

That gentle presence spread beyond Sonny’s circle. Before long, Kiki had charmed his classmates, teachers, and even parents in the south of Glasgow. Her quiet companionship and community spirit made her a staple on the school grounds.

Last year’s award went to Marley, a black and white cat who supported crime victims in a shelter. But this year? All eyes (and hearts) are on the cat who never misses a day of school.

Public voting is open on the Cats Protection website until July 31. Winners of each category will be revealed on September 24, with one crowned National Cat of the Year 2025.

If you believe in attendance, kindness, and the healing power of a cat’s quiet presence, maybe Kiki deserves your vote.
