Four years ago, the Sagarra family’s world turned upside down when their beloved Maltipoo, Sugar, vanished from their Miami home. After frantic searching and even offering a $1,000 reward, they got the call no pet parent wants.
“He said that he witnessed her get run over by a car going about 70 to 80 miles an hour,” Albania Sagarra said.
That call shattered their hopes. Believing Sugar had been killed, the family mourned her loss and slowly came to terms with never seeing her again.

But Sugar had a different story to tell.
In June 2025, a small, frail dog was dropped off anonymously at a shelter not far from the Sagarra family’s home. She was underweight, sick, and a little unrecognizable, but she was very much alive. When the shelter identified her and reached out to the Sagarras, their world turned upside down all over again, in the best way.
“I’m just very happy and soaking up every moment with Sugar because this is like a resurrection I would have never imagined,” Albania told WFTV.

Though her health is fragile, she’s battling Stage 4 heart disease and kidney disease, Sugar is finally home.
“She’s back where she belongs, and I’m happy that, at least the remainder of her days, she’ll be with her family,” Albania said.
The family doesn’t know where Sugar’s been for the last four years. They fear she was abducted and neglected. But right now, that mystery matters less than the miracle in front of them.
Home isn’t just a place, it’s the people who never stopped loving you. And for Sugar, that place is finally hers again.
