Little Boy Dresses Up as His Favorite Janitor, Melts Hearts in Mississippi

When the preschoolers at First Baptist Church in Clinton, Mississippi, were told to dress up as what they wanted to be when they grow up, one 4-year-old didn’t dream of being a firefighter, doctor, or astronaut. He wanted to be Mr. Bubba, the school’s beloved handyman and janitor.

On September 19, during “Dress As What You Want To Be When You Grow Up Day,” the little boy showed up in full Mr. Bubba gear, complete with a bald cap and tool belt. The resemblance was so spot-on that the real Mr. Bubba, whose full name is Bubba Cagle, couldn’t stop smiling. The two even posed side by side in a photo that’s since gone viral for all the right reasons.

Weekday Preschool Director Kim Evrard shared just how special Mr. Bubba is to their community. “Mr. Bubba does everything for us. I mean, all we have to do is text Mr. Bubba and he’s on it. He doesn’t just take care of us. He takes care of our whole church.”

Cagle has been the maintenance man at First Baptist Church for more than eight years. Before that, he ran his own home repair and remodeling business. While his work can be challenging, it’s moments like this that make every day worth it.

“I enjoy it. Of course, it’s a challenge when you need to get things done,” he said. “It’s just a surprise that anyone would even look up to me like that. I’m just an average Joe here. He’s a good kid. All the kids here are. I interact with them. I’m walking by all the time, and they’ll go to hollering, even out of their classrooms, ‘Mr. Bubba.’”

The adorable moment was first shared on Facebook by the church and quickly made its way across social media. One commenter wrote, “This is honestly the sweetest thing ever, that kid clearly looks up to Mr Bubba a lot.” Another added, “This is honestly the best validation he’ll ever have. There’s not a single review his boss could ever give that will compare.”

With four grandbabies of his own, it’s clear Mr. Bubba has plenty of love in his life, and now a new honorary grandson who wants to grow up to be just like him.
