More than 15 years ago, Cassie Carney founded Broken Biscuits, a charity devoted to disabled dogs, the ones often overlooked at shelters. With the help of her dedicated volunteers, she cares for at least a dozen paraplegic pups at any given time while also loaning wheelchairs to owners who could never afford such specialized gear.
And now, the love that built this mission has grown into something even bigger.
Carney dreamed of giving these pups a place of their own, somewhere they could play safely and joyfully with the humans who adore them. So with the help of donors, friends, and volunteers, Broken Biscuits built what is believed to be the world’s first dog park created specifically for disabled dogs.

The 7-acre space is bursting with thoughtful touches: a racetrack and skate rink for dogs in wheelchairs, spots where pups can earn their “learner driver’s test” after being fitted with their wheels, a cozy cafe, stables, and little houses where shy friends can tuck themselves away. A “Play Barn” filled with wagging tails welcomes visitors with a handmade sign that reads, “Caution: Dogs on bikes.”
There are even live cameras on 24/7 so volunteers and owners can check on their four-legged adventurers and make sure everyone is having safe fun.
Handmade wooden signs dot the park’s winding paths, and much of the painting, fencing, digging, and upcycling came straight from Carney’s own family and friends. It’s a true community-built haven for dogs who often get counted out.

Broken Biscuits also continues its work outside the park, offering education and guidance to families caring for disabled pups at home. And through it all, the team keeps a joyful message at the center.
“Tri-paws, blind, deaf, paraplegics, IVDD warriors, congenital birth deformities, amputees, and more: different is great,” the organization shared in a social media post.
“Let’s celebrate it loud and proud.”
