When 86-year-old “Grandma” didn’t come home from her evening walk, her husband knew something was wrong. The Florida woman had only planned to take her son’s dog, Eeyore, out for a quick stroll, but when nearly an hour passed, he called the Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office, worried she might be hurt.
“She never takes more than 10 or 15 minutes. It’s almost an hour now!” he told Deputy Devon Miller, who quickly began searching for her.
After getting a description of the dog, the deputy hopped back in her patrol car, and not long after, spotted a panting pup in the distance.
“Hi baby! Where’s your mama?” she called out as she pulled over.
Without hesitation, Eeyore took the lead, guiding Deputy Miller across a nearby property until they reached the woman lying on a sidewalk near a golf course.
“I’ve got you ma’am!” the deputy shouted as she ran to help.
The woman, who was “alert and conscious,” looked up in disbelief when she learned how the deputy had found her. “And the dog brought you?” she asked, before smiling through her pain. “He wouldn’t leave! He kept coming back to me!”
Deputy Miller praised Eeyore for his quick thinking, calling him a “good boy” over and over as the dog paced nearby. Paramedics were called to the scene and took the woman to a medical facility for evaluation.
And as they waited for help to arrive, Eeyore stayed right by her side. “Oh Eeyore, you’re such a good boy!” she said lovingly. “Grandma loves you!”
