Love really can’t wait, not even for labor.

In Greensboro, North Carolina, bride-to-be Jasmine Smith was ready to walk down the aisle on October 15. But as it turns out, her aisle would end up being a hospital crosswalk. Her water broke that morning, sending her and her fiancé, Latroy Parker, rushing to Cone Health Women’s & Children’s Center instead of their planned wedding venue.

Determined to still say “I do” before welcoming their baby girl, the couple got help from hospital staff who refused to let the big day slip away. “We were all surprised by what happened yesterday morning! Just outside Cone Health Women’s & Children’s Center at Moses Cone Hospital, we witnessed a moment that blended love, labor and a whole lot of heart,” the hospital shared on Facebook.

One of the nurses called her pastor, Reverend Sharon Lee of Lowes United Methodist Church, who agreed to officiate. Staff also pulled together a cake, flowers for the flower girl, and even refreshments for a reception in the hospital’s family room.

The ceremony took place at the heart-shaped Corous sculpture outside the hospital. “Mid-contraction, Jasmine walked slowly down the aisle, a crosswalk, in this case, to meet her fiancé, squeezing his hand as they stood together,” Cone Health wrote. Friends, family, and hospital staff gathered to witness the unforgettable moment.

“It was the perfect setting, the perfect moment. I appreciate everybody for what they did,” Parker shared.

Their daughter, Summer Reign Parker, was born just hours later, after 11 p.m. that night.

Nurse Heather Koran, the hospital’s director of labor and delivery, said, “Today, we navigated barriers, patient heartbreak and the full stretch of our potential, both individually and as a department. And together, we celebrated and orchestrated something truly unforgettable.”

Reflecting on the whirlwind day, Parker added with a smile, “She woke me up this morning and she was like, ‘You know, my water broke.’ And I’m like, ‘You kidding me? Right? We’re supposed to get married today.’ This is definitely one for the numbers. So ten years from now, I mean 30, 40 years from now, I will always like to draw back to this moment right here. This is very special.”
