When 4-year-old Micah from Farmington Hills, Michigan, dialed 911, it wasn’t an emergency, it was just to chat about his favorite things: soccer and swimming.
The call quickly turned into a lighthearted conversation with dispatchers, but since it’s standard for officers to respond to child calls, just in case something is really wrong, Officer Michael El-Hage headed out to check on the situation.
What he found was pure joy. Micah and his brother Mitch were safe, and within minutes, the three were talking sports together. El-Hage even gave the boys a peek inside his police cruiser.
That’s when the officer learned something else: Mitch’s birthday was coming up on Sunday. The Farmington Hills Police Department later wrote on Instagram, “During the visit, we learned Mitch was celebrating his birthday on Sunday, so our day shift team came together to make his special day even more memorable.”

El-Hage wasn’t sure if he could make it back for the party, but as luck would have it, he was free. So he showed up, this time with gifts. Mitch received a brand-new soccer goal, along with a police cap and badge.
“I just did it for the kids, honestly,” El-Hage told WDIV. “I just see my son there, so being a dad I think every day I can understand that that’s what it’s about for me.”
The department also made sure to highlight the heart behind the moment, writing: “While accidental 911 calls do happen, we always want kids to feel safe and comfortable reaching out to us. Turning a small mistake into a moment of connection is what community policing is all about.”
Looks like one accidental call turned into the perfect assist, making a little boy’s birthday unforgettable.
