On Hollis Avenue in Queens Village, a new laundromat has been spinning more than just clothes, it’s been spinning up a story of family, grit, and dreams come full circle.

At just 25 years old, Brandon Hollingsworth, who everyone affectionately calls Don, opened Don’s Laundry on December 31st. But this isn’t just a business. It’s a legacy.

“I feel like I am setting a standard for my siblings, especially and other people that look like me,” Brandon shared.

Brandon grew up immersed in the world of washing machines and fabric softener. His parents, Randy and Nicole Hollingsworth, own two full-service laundromats, and from a young age, Brandon was involved in every part of the business. That experience became the foundation for his own entrepreneurial dreams.

“All the mistakes that were made, I was watching first hand, so I know not to make the same mistakes,” Brandon said. “I learned to put my money away and not spend on frivolous things and I actually sold sneakers to get enough money to pay the lawyer to get the store.”

His journey wasn’t always a straight path. After graduating from Freeport High School, Brandon dropped out of college in his sophomore year, but not without a solid plan.

“He had a documented business plan, he knew exactly the steps he needed to take and he was prepared. I could not be upset with that,” said his mother, Nicole Hollingsworth.

Nicole always saw something special in him. “I’ve known Brandon would be a business owner probably since he was six and convinced his brothers to swap beds with him and do all the work,” she said, smiling.

Now, as the oldest of five siblings, Brandon is leading by example, showing his family and community that vision, preparation, and determination pay off.

His father couldn’t be prouder. “I’m very proud of him, very proud, to the moon and back,” Randy Hollingsworth said.

Brandon doesn’t just run his laundromat, he shares his journey online, connecting with others and offering a behind-the-scenes look at the hustle and heart that goes into small business ownership.

“Catering to my customers, making sure they feel welcome and accepted and they leave always with a smile,” Brandon said.

And as he looks toward the future, his mom’s advice echoes in his mind.

“Reach for the stars, like do it, do it scared, do it, no matter what it is, go for it.”

Well, Don did. And Queens Village is cheering him on, one laundry load at a time.
