Thanksgiving is a time to be with family and spoil your pets with lots of tasty treats. But what about all those pets that are in shelters for the holidays?

Well, one North Carolina shelter made sure that the animals looking for fur-ever homes over Thanksgiving got to enjoy all the fixings as if they were right there in someone’s kitchen.

“Today every shelter animal got a little bit of holiday cheer and happiness in their bowl!” the New Hanover Sheriff’s Office Animal Services Unit posted on Facebook.

“Shelter animals deserve a turkey dinner, too, and they loved theirs today!!”

Photos of dogs and cats enjoying some yams, turkey, mashed potatoes and gravy and green beans were shared along with the post – and they look so happy about it too.

Shelter staff also urged people to be careful and make sure any Thanksgiving treat given to a pet is OK for them to eat.
“Happy Thanksgiving from all of us with the Animal Services Unit,” the post said.

Even though these beautiful animals don’t have a fur-ever home yet, shelters like this one are making sure they have as many special moments as possible before they hit the lottery and get sent to a loving home.

And remember, if you’re in the market for a pet – Adopt, Don’t Shop!

Rescue animals make the absolute best pets, because they have a lot of love to give if we give them a chance.
