A Romanian refugee camp wanted life to feel normal for a moment when they surprised 7-year-old Arina, a Ukrainian refugee, with a special birthday party amidst the chaos.
Despite fleeing her country during a time of war, an excited Arina, can be seen emerging from a blue tent to dozens of volunteers singing “Happy Birthday” while one placed a bright pink birthday hat on the girl’s head.
The surprise party took place after a psychologist working at the camp learned from Arina’s mother that it was the girl’s 7th birthday.
“Everyone in the camp mobilized, including the local authorities, and together organized a special moment for the little birthday girl,” ISU Suceava wrote in the caption of the now-viral Facebook post – adding that colleagues also brought cake, balloons and presents.
“At least for a few moments, Arina was happy to be the center of attention,” the post continued.
“We hope that among her memories of this complicated period, she will receive this moment when she was smiling, and we, in our souls.”
