A single mom, who has an infant son, was able to attend class and take notes thanks to her Lincoln University professor, Dr. Aqeel Dix.

With plenty of hesitation, college student, Imani Lamarr, contacted her professor, Dr. Aqeel Dix, and said she couldn’t come to class because she didn’t have a babysitter.

Lamarr had just returned to school after taking a semester off due to her son being born prematurely.

“It was really hard. Every day going to the hospital, seeing him and not being able to help him, it was hard,” Lamarr recalled.
Not wanting her to fall behind, Dix said that she could bring her infant son to class with her.

“I never thought that it would come to that, and to have somebody who’s there for me…who really cares … it meant a lot,” Lamarr said.

Without a second thought, when Lamarr arrived in class, Dix took the baby boy and carried him on his hip during the lesson – making sure the boy was facing his mama the whole time to keep him calm.

The long-time professor posted the moment to Instagram, writing:

“I always say, we as educators are more than our title. I will never have a student miss class because they have no one to keep their kids. I will hold daycare in the back of my class before I allow them to miss class. Days like this makes me fall in love with what I do.”

Since that day just over a year ago, Lamarr is now a few months from graduating and she has two of her favorite guys, her mentor, and her now healthy 2-year-old son to thank.

“You really don’t understand how much this meant to me,” she said.
