What could have been a reminder of a painful loss turned into a night of joyous celebration thanks to Philadelphia Eagles player Anthony Harris.
11-year-old Audrey Soape lost her father and grandfather in the span of a year.
Audrey’s middle school hosts an annual daddy-daughter dance. This year’s dance would be the first since her father’s passing.
Audrey’s mother, Holly, wanted to do something to give her daughter a moment of happiness after such a difficult year. Knowing her daughter’s love of football, Holly reached out to Audrey’s favorite player, Anthony Harris.
“It’s kind of far-fetched…it’s a big ask,” Holly said. “I just asked if he would come, if he’d be willing to come. And he said, ‘not only will I come, I want to make sure she feels like a princess.'”
“I heard about it about a week before the dance. And at first, I was like really nervous,” Audrey said. “I was kind of worried all week that I was going to mess up dancing.”
Harris flew out to take Audrey to the dance and even arranged to cover the cost of Audrey’s dress, shoes, hair, and makeup. “She just felt like a princess all night,” her mother exclaimed.
“I was so anxious and excited for her because she just had the most terrible year,” Holly said.
“For someone to show up and to teach her that people do show up for you, it’s just been beyond a blessing. Just the power of God and how he makes these situations happen has just been unbelievable and remarkable.”
Harris also appreciated being able make such a special night for the young girl.
“You gotta cherish these moments. You never know how long we have here on this earth,” said Harris. “So, the people that you care about and you love, show support for them”.
