Just over a year ago, 25 year old Celeste Bradley of Madison, Alabama, faced a life changing medical emergency after contracting sepsis, which led to the amputation of her hands and legs.
When her story spread through the community, neighbors and supporters stepped up in a big way, raising more than $70,000 to help fund her recovery and prosthetics.
Thanks to donations from the community and support from a New York based foundation, Bradley was able to purchase prosthetic legs and her first bionic hand. She says the prosthetics have helped restore both her confidence and independence.
After months of learning to walk again, Bradley returned to work part time as a speech pathologist and even picked up new activities like pickleball. Her prosthetic legs include a heel height adjustable feature, allowing her to wear the shoes she loved before and feel more like herself again.
In November, Bradley received her first bionic hand after using a prosthetic hook for nearly a year. She says the hand has opened up new possibilities, helping her drive, eat, do makeup, and bake.
Bradley says the overwhelming support from her community has been deeply moving and life changing. While she continues to make progress, she is still raising funds for a second bionic hand.
Those who wish to help can find her GoFundMe linked through WAFF.
